Electrify America vs. EVgo: How Do They Compare?

Electrify America and EVgo are two of the largest non-Tesla DC fast-charging networks in the US, both widely available but with some practical differences worth knowing.

Electrify America

Built with a strong highway-corridor focus and backed by significant early investment, Electrify America stations commonly offer high-power charging (150-350 kW) at many locations, particularly along major interstate routes.

EVgo

EVgo has leaned more heavily into urban and suburban locations — retail centers, grocery stores — making it a common choice for everyday top-ups rather than purely long-distance road trips.

What actually matters when choosing

Coverage in your specific area and along your specific route matters far more than brand preference — checking which network has stations where you're actually driving is more useful than picking a favorite in the abstract.

Do I need a separate account for each charging network?

Often yes, historically — most networks have their own app and account system, though many now support one-tap guest charging via a linked payment method without a full account, and this is gradually improving industry-wide.
